Placid Oil Company is a subsidiary of Hunt Oil Company, which is the largest privately owned oil and gas production company in the United States. Founded by H.L. Hunt in the 1940’s, the company has continued to grow over the years. Hunt was a Texas oil tycoon and political activist. Opening in Alabama, the company began to explore and produce oil under the names of Hunt Oil and Placid Oil Company, which drilled for oil as Penrod and transported oil as Panola Pipeline. By the 1960’s, Placid Oil had production rates that doubled Hunt Oil. Since this time, Placid Oil and Hunt Oil have grown significantly in size.
How Oil Workers Have Been Injured While On The Job
Some of the accidents that have been reported involving Placid oil include the following:
- A vehicular accident involving a boat occurred at Placid Oil Company that resulted in workers being injured. Many vehicular accidents occur at oil rigs because workers are either not properly trained on how to use water vessels or workers cannot see an oil rig due to adverse weather conditions. These accidents are very common on oil rigs because workers must arrive to the location via either boat or helicopter.
- A Placid Oil worker was injured when a section of platform on an oil rig gave way below his feet. Falls on oil rigs occur for a number of reasons including scaffolding that collapses as well as workers who fail to obey posted safety precautions. These falls can be particularly dangerous when workers fall overboard and end up in the ocean. There is also a significant risk of workers on oil rigs because struck by falling objects.
- Several flash fires have occurred at Placid oil rigs. These accidents can be very deadly because oil rigs are contained spaces. Some of the reasons why these accidents occur include machinery that fails to operate properly, the use of many different types of combustible material on oil rigs, chemical leaks, failure to properly maintain equipment that eventually malfunction or is defective, and the failure of workers to follow proper safety precautions.
The Danger of Asbestos for Oil Rig Workers
Asbestos was once used by many companies even though knowledge existed that prolonged and frequent exposure to asbestos has the potential to cause asbestosis and several other deadly medical conditions. As a result, if you are a worker who is harmed by asbestos that is contained with an oil rig, the responsible company can likely be held responsible for any resulting harm.
