Placid Oil Company is a subsidiary of Hunt Oil Company, which is the largest privately owned oil and gas production company in the United States. Founded by H.L. Hunt in the 1940’s, the company has continued to grow over the years. Hunt was a Texas oil tycoon and political activist. Opening in Alabama, the company began to explore and produce oil under the names of Hunt Oil and Placid Oil Company, which drilled for oil as Penrod and transported oil as Panola Pipeline. By the 1960’s, Placid Oil had production rates that doubled Hunt Oil.  Since this time, Placid Oil and Hunt Oil have grown significantly in size.
