About Boise Cascade Corporation

Boise-Cascade was established in May 1957 when Boise-Payette Lumber Company and Cascade Lumber Company merged. Boise-Payette was one of Idaho’s largest lumber producers since its establishment in 1931. The Cascade Lumber Company had operated in Washington since 1902. The merger allowed the companies to expand into the manufacture of paper and pulp products. The operation built a kraft and paper will and corrugated container plants in Wallula and Burley, Idaho in 1958. The corporation established different divisions for mobile home construction, residential construction, publishing, cruise management and recreational vehicle production, becoming the third largest forest products company in the United States. Over the years, it manufactured paper, packaging, office supplies, wood building products, building materials, engineered wood products, particleboard and many others. Many of the products produced in its paper mills and plants contained asbestos. Asbestos was also used to insulate machinery and pipes in its plants. Those who worked around these materials could have been exposed to asbestos. The company has been named as a defendant in many asbestos cases in which plaintiffs asserted that they developed mesothelioma and other asbestos-related conditions due to their exposure to the company’s products. It has settled a number of these cases for undisclosed amounts.
