Duluth Minnesota Military and Veteran Mesothelioma Treatment
The Duluth Air National Guard Base is located at the Duluth International Airport. It was constructed after World War II in 1948 on land that the Air Force and the Air National Guard leased from the City of Duluth. These organizations soon built permanent and semi-permanent facilities at the site. Air Defense Command activated the first squadron in 1952. In the 1960s, the base operated a Semi-Automatic Ground Environment radar command and control center from the site to track and intercept enemy aircraft. The United States Air Force stopped operating at the site in 1982, but the Minnesota Air National Guard continues to use it. The base is home to the 148th Fighter Wing.
Individuals who worked in the Air Force or the Air National Guard could have been exposed to asbestos because this material was often included on various components that were part of aircraft or military vehicles, such as brake pads, brake linings and clutches. Additionally, military bases were often constructed with materials that contained asbestos, such as flooring and ceiling tiles.
