St. Louis Missouri Asbestos and Mesothelioma Lawsuits

St. Louis, Missouri has been a jurisdiction that has resulted in several multimillion-dollar jury verdicts for individuals with mesothelioma and their families. In 2015, a St. Louis jury returned a $11.5 million verdict to the widow of a deceased Navy veteran who was exposed to asbestos during his time of service. The veteran had been diagnosed with mesothelioma and died from the disease in 2013. The widow sued the manufacturers of asbestos-containing products that he was exposed to while a machinist’s mate in the Navy. The lawsuit alleged that the manufacturers failed to warn the public of the dangers of asbestos, which they knew about. Several manufacturers settled before trial. Crane Co. was ordered to pay $1.5 million in compensatory damages and another $10 million in punitive damages.

In a 2005 St. Louis Circuit Court case, the jury awarded a $5.1 million verdict to the family of a 42-year-old woman who died from mesothelioma after being exposed to asbestos through her father who worked for a company that used asbestos-containing parts for Aerojet, which produced rockets and missiles in the early 1950s.

In July 2018, a St. Louis jury ordered a record-breaking verdict of $4.69 billion to 22 women who developed ovarian cancer after using Johnson & Johnson talc products, which they allege contained asbestos. The company’s motion to overturn the verdict was denied.
