Philadelphia Mesothelioma Lawsuits
Philadelphia has seen its fair share of sizable verdicts and awards to people diagnosed with mesothelioma and their families. Some notable verdicts include:
- $25.2 million – In 2008, a Philadelphia jury returned a $25.2 million verdict in three consolidated cases brought by the families who had relatives die from malignant mesothelioma. Some of the cases settled for a confidential amount, but the one plaintiff whose case went to the liability phase was awarded $7 million in compensatory damages and $18.2 million in punitive damages after the jury found that the Navy vet who worked in Philadelphia but had primarily been exposed to asbestos products when he lived and worked in Kentucky and developed mesothelioma as a result of the actions of the product manufacturers. The jury found some of the defendants were grossly negligent for failing to warn of the known dangers of asbestos.
- $7.2 million – A Philadelphia jury returned a verdict exceeding $7.2 million in 2014 to the estate of a shipfitter against nine companies that manufactured products that contained asbestos that the shipfitter used at his job.
- $4.8 million – In 2015, a Pennsylvania appeals court affirmed a verdict for $4.8 million for two wives whose husbands had developed mesothelioma after long-term exposure to asbestos.
