Koos, Inc. in Kenosha Wisconsin

Koos, Inc. is one of the many companies that received asbestos-contaminated vermiculite from W.R. Grace and American Vermiculite. The company’s Kenosha facility processed the contaminated vermiculite from 1960 to 1995. Workers who worked closely with these materials could have been exposed to asbestos and be at risk for developing mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases. Additionally, customers were at risk of exposure, such as individuals who purchased fertilizer with asbestos-contaminated vermiculite. When using the product, customers could have breathed in asbestos fibers.

IMC Vigoro purchased Koos’ facilities in 1995, which then sold the vermiculite processing equipment and produced salt at the facilities.
