South-Valley

New Mexico’s statute of limitations gives mesothelioma victims and their families three years to file a lawsuit. This clock begins at the time of diagnosis or the death of a loved one due to mesothelioma. If this time limit passes before a lawsuit is filed, the claim can be barred even if liability is clear. Because mesothelioma is such an aggressive form of cancer, victims must take immediate steps to combat it. Aggressive medical treatments like chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery may be necessary to prolong the victim’s life, but these medical treatments are expensive. Our experienced mesothelioma lawyers can pursue compensation against negligent parties to help offset the cost of your medical expenses and lost wages.

South Valley New Mexico Veterans with Mesothelioma

South Valley is located near Kirtland Air Force Base. This base was established in 1928 and was later modified to become larger and accommodate more units. Kirtland Air Force Base is the largest installation in the Air Force Global Strike Command. It is currently the sixth largest facility in the Air Force. The base consists of more than 51,000 acres. More than 23,000 people work at the base, including active duty members, National Guard members and Army Reserve personnel.

Former Air Force members or civilian employees from South Valley could have potentially been exposed to asbestos because the Air Force and other branches of the military often used asbestos for its insulating properties. Asbestos was commonly used on bases, radar stations and in planes. Asbestos was often contained in brakes, cockpit heat systems, engine heat shields, gaskets, torque valves and insulation for electrical wiring and cargo bays. Air Force mechanics were at a heightened risk of asbestos exposure because of the possibility of inhaling airborne asbestos fibers. Aircraft electricians, Air Force firefighters and boilers workers were also at an increased risk of exposure. Civilian contractors who worked at Air Force bases also ran the potential of being exposed to dangerous levels of asbestos.

South Valley residents may attend the New Mexico VA Health Care System in nearby Albuquerque. Extensive services are offered at this facility, including the assignment of a caregiver support coordinator, community mental health point of contact, emergency services, mental health services, nutrition and food service, pathology and laboratory work, pharmacy services and recreational therapy.
