Oregon law gives you only two short years from receiving your mesothelioma diagnosis to file a lawsuit against the parties responsible for your asbestos exposure. This drastically limits the time you have to identify the responsible parties, determine your legal strategy and file your lawsuit within the applicable time limits. For these reasons, it is critical to work with an experienced mesothelioma lawyer who is familiar with these types of cases, the parties often named as defendants in them, the potential legal theories that can be asserted and the legal issues that may be involved. Veterans Exposed to Asbestos in Military Bases Near Beaverton Oregon

Located a few hours away from Beaverton, Oregon is the Umatilla Army Depot, which was a U.S. Army installation that once stored chemical weapons, including munitions and containers of nerve or blister agents. The base included 20,000 acres in Hermiston, Oregon. The chemical weapons began being stored at the facility in 1941. At one point, 12% of the nation’s original chemical weapons were stored at the Oregon facility. The facility was responsible for storing and maintaining chemical weapons and other military items. Beginning in 1990, the facility began to prepare for closure and began shipping ammunition and supplies to other military installations. A disposal facility was completed in 2001. Weapons disposal took place from 2004 to 2011. The remainder of the chemical substances were obliterated in October 2011 with the help of high-temperature incineration technology. Between the 1950s and 1965, approximately 85 million gallons of wastewater from explosive washout operations were discharged into two lagoons.

Waste and disposal of items is a common form of exposure to asbestos. Materials containing asbestos were often used to construct military facilities, so individuals who constructed them or renovated them may have been exposed to these toxic substances.
